Jeep CJ Narrow Track Steering Kit 1972-1981 with Power Steering

Your CJ steers the way it does for a reason. The steering shaft has developed play at the slip joint. The linkage ends have worn enough that small gaps exist at every connection point. The steering box mount flexes under load before your input reaches the tires. None of those problems announced themselves. They crept in over decades and you adapted without realizing it.

What is in this kit:

RT Off Road RT21011 HD Steering Shaft with Power Steering. Eliminates the dead zone between the wheel and the steering box. Upgraded U-joints and slip joint designed to deliver your steering input directly, without the hesitation and vagueness of a worn factory shaft.

Rugged Ridge 18050.54 HD Tie Rod and Rugged Ridge 18050.56 HD Drag Link. Heavy duty 1.25 inch OD DOM steel tubing with 7/8 inch rod ends. Sized correctly for the 1972 to 1981 narrow track Dana 30 so toe-in can be set properly without modification. One ton strength without modifications to your steering knuckles.

Mountain Off Road SB7686Z HD Steering Box Mount. Replaces the factory stamped 1/8 inch mount with 3/8 and 1/2 inch thick steel. Locks the steering box to the frame and eliminates the flex point that undermines everything downstream. The CJ frame rail at the steering box location is a documented stress point. This mount reduces the ongoing stress that causes cracking there. Zinc plated for corrosion resistance. Sourced and crafted in Colorado.

Rugged Ridge 18475.01 HD Steering Stabilizer. Included because a properly rebuilt front end benefits from a stabilizer doing its actual job. On a worn system a stabilizer hides the problem. On a sorted system it absorbs the road inputs that are just part of driving a solid axle Jeep.

This kit fits 1972 to 1981 Jeep CJ5 and CJ7 with narrow track Dana 30 front axle and factory power steering. If you are not sure whether your CJ has factory power steering, check the steering box on the driver side frame rail. Power steering boxes have a hydraulic pressure line and return line connected to them.

Note: this kit addresses steering linkage, shaft, box mount, and damper. It does not replace ball joints, wheel bearings, or the steering box itself. If you have significant play at the ball joints, address those before or alongside this kit. We carry a complete Dana 30 knuckle service system separately if needed.
